Finding an internship with the UoB Internship Scheme

Hello UoB students and graduates,

Autumn for the Internship Team was extremely busy. With a range of exciting internships advertised and student-sourced roles secured, many of the internship places were quickly filled.

Perhaps your new year’s resolution is to get some great work experience? Then the UoB Internship Scheme may give you just that.

For those who haven’t heard of the scheme before, it support students and graduates wanting to gain quality, paid work experience with Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) in the UK. An SME is an organisation that employs up to 250 people and has a turnover of no more than £50 million. This includes charities, social enterprises and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), so there is a real variety in the opportunities available.

Remuneration will be at least National Minimum Wage over 4 or 8 weeks full time. There is also the option for a part-time working schedule, either 140 or 280 hours. This is typically flexible, and internships can be undertaken during term time or vacations.

The demand for places is very high, so students and graduates are advised to get involved as soon as possible. There are two ways to get involved; by checking the list of current UoB Internships regularly or applying speculatively to organisations, providing they are classed as an SME. If applying speculatively, students together with the organisation should complete our student-sourced internship form.
