GAIN City Challenge – kicking off a new year of the City Challenge programme!

Following a highly successful first year of City Challenges, Girls Are INvestors (GAIN) took part in hosting the first City Challenge of the new academic year.

GAIN City Challenge group

Students tackled the question of ‘How we can encourage women into finance and bust myths?’ in groups before presenting their ideas to GAIN, allowing the charity to use these ideas in their future work.

We caught up with a few students after the City Challenge, who shared that the experience had been a valuable opportunity to develop their critical thinking and communication skills, while finding creative solutions to the challenge at hand.

Tasha Hoskins, the representative from GAIN said:

‘We had a brilliant experience being involved with the City Challenge and woGirls Are INvestors Logould love to take part again in the future. All the students who attended were engaged throughout the session, asked insightful questions, and shared some great ideas. It was incredibly useful to hear from the students about our work and how we can engage more students moving forward, and we’ve come away with lots of ideas.’

‘As a majority weren’t from a finance background it was really useful to gain insight into their understanding of the finance industry and what are the perceived challenges or barriers to entering the industry, especially for women.’

The City Challenges Programme is a fantastic way to boost your experience hours for the Bristol PLUS Award whilst gaining invaluable real-world experience in Bristol’s charity sector.

Sign up for the remaining City Challenges taking place both off and on campus this semester (reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for the off-campus events):
