Transform Societyis a network of social change programmes (Teach First, Police Now, Unlocked, Think Ahead, NGDP and Frontline) that together, are working to develop the public service leaders of the future. By partnering with Transform Society, the University of Bristol is showing a commitment to helping increase the number and diversity of high-calibre graduates taking up roles on community impact programmes.
Hannah Altendorff studied Sociology and Social Policy at Bristol, graduating in 2008, and then went on to do a master’s degree in Human Rights at the University of Sussex. She is now a Mental Health Social worker with Think Ahead.

As well as coming back to class ready for the new academic year, it’s also a time for moving into new houses and getting to know new housemates. The student rental market has a bad rep, and runners up from last year’sNew Enterprise Competitionaim to tackle this: MeetHYBR. We spoke with their founder, Hannah to find out what they’ve been up to.
Describe your business to us in a nutshell.
HYBR is an online marketplace for student accommodation that connects students directly to landlords, cutting out the traditional letting agent. Our mission is to provide an affordable landlord solution and support first-time renters throughout their rental journey.
Where did the idea of HYBR come from?
University is some of the best years of young adults’ lives and one hugely exciting aspect of this is moving in withfriends. My co-founder and I reflected on our positive rental experiences with Airbnb, andwe realised renting a house is a part of the excitement of moving away. The PLUS Award has certainly grown and evolved in the past decade; In its pilot year, 165 students achieved the PLUS Award, since then over 5,000 students have achieved it. Another 800 have finished so far this year, persevering to bag their Award despite changing circumstances!(more…)
