Happy Global Entrepreneurship week!

It’s Global Entrepreneurship Week this week, which means people all over the world are coming together to celebrate start-ups and new business ideas.

Here at Basecamp, we have a lot of exciting events and opportunities coming up this academic year, to help you get a leg up for your start-up. Read on for more info, as well as some insights from former students who have worked with us and turned their start-up dreams into reality. You can also visit the Global Entrepreneurship website where they have more information, as well as events running all week, online and in-person, all over the world.

How we can support you

PlayThru is an amazing education tool, designed to bring the fun and innovation of video gaming into a learning environment.

Its creator, Bristol graduate Rose Tan (pictured left), worked closely with us here at Basecamp, and shares her thoughts below:

“I studied MSc Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the University of Bristol and graduated in 2018. I founded PlayThru, an education technology (edtech) start up that automates gamification for education encouraging play and learner engagement online. The Basecamp team has offered regular support through mentorship and advice on my Graduate Entrepreneur visa which provided the opportunity for me to set up a business in the UK after graduation.”

You can book a 1:1 appointment with the Basecamp team through mycareer to find out how we can support your start-up.

As well as appointments with the Basecamp team, the New Enterprise Competition is a massive chance for you to grow and develop your ideas into a fully-fledged business.

RouteZero, the Winners of the 2022 New Enterprise Competition, transformed their idea into an incredible business with an amazingly positive impact on climate change. Their founder, computer science graduate Albie Baker-Smith (pictured right with co-founder Dan Brown) , has this to say:

“We’re RouteZero and we’re on a mission to help mitigate climate change! Our startup is co-founded by Albie, myself – 2019 Computer Science graduate from the University of Bristol, and my co-founder Dan. We help organisations and governments massively cut their business travel emissions by providing them all the tools they need to find and take lower-carbon routes.”

“Winning the New Enterprise Competition, run by the Basecamp team, helped provide us with the funds and expertise to grow the company (£10k grant funding with 12 months SetSquared incubation). Since winning the award, we’ve brought on our largest customer yet and gained access to additional support and funding to help us scale.”

The support the University has offered us has been really valuable – I’d definitely recommend checking out the events going on during Global entrepreneurship week, and also getting in touch with the Basecamp and Careers Services teams to find out more about how they can help your start-up or idea!”

The Development stage of the New Enterprise Competition is open for applications from November 28, find out more on mycareer
