City Challenge with Not Impossible

City Challenges are a programme of events providing students with the opportunity to engage with charities and social enterprises.

They are a great way for you to support worthwhile organisations whilst developing skills to improve employability.

Not Impossible recently hosted a City Challenge with us at the Careers Service.

Not Impossible

Not Impossible is the marketplace on a mission to fuel social mobility across the South-West by fixing work experience for less advantaged young people. Their microplacements (1-hour to 1-day) make hosting work experience easy and beneficial for busy employers and possible for young people with multiple commitments across work, study and family.

They provide opportunities for all young people to find work that matters to them, whilst helping employers meet talented young people (16-25) from underrepresented backgrounds.

The Challenge

Working in groups, the students had a couple of hours to come up with solutions, before taking it in turns to present their research and ideas. The organisation gave them positive feedback on their presentations and are taking these ideas away to work on.

The 2 challenges they were given were:

1. What events could Not Impossible run to support students who have done a microplacement to help them secure paid work?

2. Considering the personas you’ve been given, what would their dream experience be for a 1 hour virtual, half day and full day placement?

Here’s what Not Impossible had to say about the event:

“We thoroughly enjoyed the City Challenge and were hugely impressed by both the quality of the students and the great organisation by the Careers Service. We left with tangible ideas to implement across our social enterprise and were inspired by the next generation of talent entering the workforce. We feel very fortunate to have taken part”

The students who attended the event said that it helped them to develop various skills, such as teamworking, problem solving, public speaking and idea generation.
