Introduction
Hi! My name is Viktor, I’m a second year Computer Science student. Just like many other students I hoped to secure an internship in order to gain valuable work experience and insight into the industry. However, due to a worldwide pandemic that proved to be a rather difficult task. Luckily, I stumbled upon a Web Developer Internship at Raw Space and that’s how it all began.
The role
Raw Space is a co-working space where people from different backgrounds gather to do work together, bounce ideas and help each other. Putting such a diverse group of people together can lead to a lot of chaos; this is where the idea for an online platform to help with that comes in. A big concern is that a lot of people get lost in their work, often neglecting other aspects of their lives.
The task was to design a tool that would help people track the work they are doing and monitor the balance they currently have in their lives. My role was to work with a colleague to design the layout for a webpage that would serve this purpose from scratch and then build it.
Outcomes
The whole internship was great practice and insight into the world of work. From the client’s vision to the final product there are many steps to be taken that one can’t anticipate before experiencing them first-hand.
I learnt a great deal on how to communicate ideas, learn autonomously and apply the best industry practices to ensure work flows smoothly. The work was entirely remote but that wasn’t an obstacle as there was frequent communication and reviews of current progress.
The internship was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to improve their skills and gain experience within industry.
