The Santander SME Internship Scheme provides quality, paid work experience opportunities for final year students and graduates who completed their degree in the last 18 months.
The internships are 280 hours long and can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
This scheme works with small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK, which are organisations with less than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £40 million.
We asked last year’s interns, what were the highlights of your internship?
‘The trust placed on me from the beginning to make decisions and carry out important tasks. Also the variability of the role, there was so much to learn and each day/festival was different with new challenges to adapt too.’
‘They liked my performance so they asked me to stay in the company after the internship ends.’
There are two ways for you to get involved in the Santander SME Internship Scheme.
1 – apply to our advertised opportunities on mycareer.
2 – source your own opportunity. This is usually through a speculative application, where you contact organisations that are not advertising any internship opportunities to see if they would like to take you on through the scheme. Find out more online with our handy guide.
If you decide to take this path, it is important to remember that the scheme is very beneficial to the SME too. Here’s what some of our partner SMEs had to say:
Our intern ‘was invaluable this summer and the season would have been impossible to complete without her help.’
‘It’s a brilliant way to engage dynamic, bright and talented candidates with support from the University of Bristol’
‘The intern developed an entire new product which our organisation is now looking to set up mass production.’
